Our Team

After her degree in petroleum engineering and her doctoral work on the thermodynamics of phase transitions, Mariam applied her expertise to biophysical problems related to general anesthetics. Working across disciplines, Mariam learned how to communicate complex information effectively, and leverages these skills both as a science consultant and as an educator. Though she is an expert communicator, Mariam still considers herself a lifelong student, and believes learning new things is her greatest skill.

Originally a chemical engineer by training, Ian’s most recent research focus has been in molecular biology and biophysics. An expert in nucleic acids, Ian has presented at international conferences on topics ranging from simulations of polymers to RNA folding. His experience and breadth of knowledge in a wide range of fields makes him uniquely positioned to offer advice on interdisciplinary projects at the frontier of science. On the topic of which field he prefers, Ian just says, “Interesting problems are interesting.”
